Use in discussions (list markup)
editAs can be seen, for example at Talk:Aurangabad#Official renaming of Aurangabad to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar – lead section clarification, when used in discussion, which use HTML list markup, this block-level template breaks the markup. Is there a workaround for this, or do we need an inline version? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:20, 2 January 2026 (UTC)
- I have experienced the same issue with other collapsible templates such as {{Hidden archive top}}, which this template is derived from. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of a simple solution that does not involve manually fixing the list markup per WP:TPFIXLAYOUT. — Newslinger talk 04:23, 3 January 2026 (UTC)
Poor contrast in dark theme
editAnyone know how to fix the CSS? White on beige isn't ideal. lp0 on fire () 23:21, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hi lp0 on fire, when I activate dark mode on the default Vector 2022 skin, I see off-white text on an off-black background, which I find easy to read. The CSS (Template:Collapse AI top/styles.css) shows that the background color should be off-black in dark mode, not beige. Which dark theme are you using? — Newslinger talk 09:25, 17 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hello! I'm on V22 as well, but it looks like it might have been the result of some odd CSS on a user talk page. The example I found was at Special:Permalink/1337313393, but I just went and found another example at Talk:Fascism and it looks normal. I'm not sure what the problem is, but it looks like it isn't in this template. Sorry to bother you (: lp0 on fire () 10:45, 17 February 2026 (UTC)
- Don't worry, it's not a bother. In Special:Diff/1337181403, the template was substituted instead of transcluded. This template had not been designed with substitution in mind, and I don't think it had ever been tested when substituted and displayed in dark mode. After reviewing the recommendations for night mode compatibility, I've just made the necessary changes to let it properly handle both substitution and dark mode. I've re-substituted the template in the example talk page discussion and it seems to be showing the correct colors now. Thanks for reporting this issue with the template. Please note that even though the template can be substituted, I still don't recommend doing so because I don't think there is a benefit over transcluding it while there are a couple of drawbacks: substituted collapsible templates are more difficult to recognize in the wikitext, and substituted uses are not listed in Special:WhatLinksHere for tracking. — Newslinger talk 17:21, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
- Ah okay, thanks. I had assumed it should be substed becase {{atop}} recommends substing and I thought it would be the same. Thanks for clearing this up! lp0 on fire () 17:24, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
- No problem! But, I should note that I don't think there's a recommendation to substitute {{atop}}. There's no relevant guidance in Template:Archive top/doc, and it looks like the most recent ANI archive page only uses transclusions of {{atop}}. — Newslinger talk 17:30, 18 February 2026 (UTC)
- Oh, thanks! No clue why I thought that :D lp0 on fire () 17:36, 18 February 2026 (UTC)

Not always a consnensus matter
editWe need a switch that turns off display of " and should be excluded from assessments of consensus", for uses on pages where determining consensus is not the purpose of discussion (such as on help desks). Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:39, 19 February 2026 (UTC)
- The message text has been changed multiple times since the template was created, so I am cautious about supporting a parameter that partly depends on the current text. Would you be interested in a parameter that specifies a custom message that completely replaces the default message? — Newslinger talk 00:36, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
- That would not suffice. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 09:15, 20 February 2026 (UTC)
Excess whitespace/padding
editAt some stage in the last ?week, something has changed so there's a lot of whitespace/padding on the right when this template is expanded. Here's some screenshots from my 11" iPad with the Timeless skin. I see there were some changes to the CSS but CSS hurts my brain so I can't work out what's going on.

- Could you try clicking "Don't run Convenient Discussions on this page once" in the footer and see if the issue persists on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Le Manifest? FaviFake (talk) 09:22, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
- That worked! (Too many scripts means I don't know where to look for bugs!) I've been using CD for s few weeks though, so something has changed somewhere. ClaudineChionh (she/her · talk · email · global) 09:32, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
