"In 1846, British tobacconist Philip Morris opened a shop on Bond Street, London, United Kingdom, selling tobacco and rolled cigarettes."

Wasn't he eleven years old in '46? Theo27 (talk) 08:26, 23 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

There is some inconsistency with the Philip Morris (tobacconist) article, and this is one of the differences. He was young, but it was his family setting up the shop. I will edit this article to include the reference from the Philip Morris article, and also I will delete the "died from lung cancer" claim. Cancer was added by 196.188.241.198 in 2019 without a source. Lung was added by 98.124.96.60 in 2023, also without a source. Ttwaring (talk) 20:10, 25 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Article class demotion

edit

Hi all, I've demoted this article to c-class after a broad review, as there is almost no context on the important legal history of the brand, and a significant lack of context for its brand history in the 21st century as well. There's also very little information on the progression of the company outside of the United Kingdom / United States / Canada, and the majority of the article's weight rests upon its sports sponsorships; in that regard, though I will say I'm impressed with whoever wrote that section, there is literally no sourcing to support it for 7 paragraphs of text in a row. The information provided here is substantial, but it is still critically lacking in certain sections, and is in desperate need of an update, as well as a broader review of accuracy given the lack of proper citation. I wish everyone the best, and will look forward to seeing improvements.
