editTo: user:Rdsmith4,
Why did you revert Super Mario and Mario Jr. as they are valid monikers used in hockey. 132.205.94.18 01:19, 24 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Do not add given names to this page
editThis is the disambiguation page for general entries that can be referred to as "Mario". Anyone with the name Mario is listed in Mario (given name), a disambiguation page specifically for people's names. As a matter of course, any time articles about a person are added to this page (I'm looking at you, Mario (entertainer)) they will be promptly removed and this is why. æronphonehome 15:47, 7 November 2009 (UTC)
- That's valid if "Mario" is part of a longer name and the person is not regularly referred to as solely "Mario". But if they go by only the single name Mario, as the entertainer and opera singer apparently do, it's perfectly okay to include them here. Propaniac (talk) 22:00, 19 February 2010 (UTC)
Nintendo Mario
editA search for "Mario" links directly to the Nintendo character, but I think it should go to this disambiguation page. Also, at the top of this page, the intro mentions Nintendo Mario right off, and then "oh yeah, there are also some other uses." I think the general usage as a proper name should lead the page.Barndoorsentry (talk) 17:53, 5 October 2011 (UTC)\ Definitely. It's pretty bizarre. I feel like it's been hijacked by fans of the franchise, when clearly it's a very common name with a lot of different meanings. But apparently it's been six years, and nothing has changed. “Mario movie” entries
editSearching “Mario movie” redirects to the film and animation section. So I added that famous Mario movie as a mention. Or not… Qwertyxp2000 (talk | contribs) 22:28, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
- I am not quite sure how to properly handle entries related to “Mario movie” when all entries of just “Mario” lead to that film and animation section. Qwertyxp2000 (talk | contribs) 22:31, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Qwertyxp2000 In recent edits of this disambiguation page, I added a hatnote pointing to movies related to the Super Mario series in the Mario (franchise) article, then @Popcornfud made some adjustments (that I find welcome) to directly add the movies in the disambiguation page. However, on June 13, @162 etc. removed those entries from that page, citing WP:PTM in their edit summary. Even though it is a partial title match, I think the recent-ish The Super Mario Bros. Movie deserves a spot here for the readers searching "Mario movie" plus the first couple results on Google cite this movie specifically. I also found this AFD regarding the past disambiguation page that was here. Justjourney (talk | contribs) 23:57, 16 July 2025 (UTC)
- The overwhelming majority of readers searching for "Mario movie" will be looking for one of those two movies. To omit them from this page creates a terrible user experience. Popcornfud (talk) 04:14, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- Unless reliable secondary sources refer to The Super Mario Bros. Movie as "Mario movie", it does not belong on the Mario (disambiguation) page. See WP:PTM. 162 etc. (talk) 05:21, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- Nintendo Life uses the "Mario Movie" tag[1], with the top article describing "The Next Mario Movie"[2] (The update on that article states that the official reference to the apparent next movie was removed, it still uses "Mario movie" all over.
- And this is a great example by Nintendo Life citing The Super Mario Bros. Movie[3] Here is another source.[4]
- A quick glance at my Google Search results for "Mario movie" (quotes included) shows that many reviews of the movie contains use of "Mario movie". Justjourney (talk | contribs) 05:44, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- Here are a few more examples of reliable sources calling it the "Mario movie": Guardian, Tech Radar, BBC, Rolling Stone, Variety. Popcornfud (talk) 07:44, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- The headline of this article by Gamespot[5] showing off a potential rumor for a new movie, uses "Mario Movie Team Returns For A Donkey Kong Film, Listing Reveals", suggesting that the "Mario Movie Team" was the team for the The Super Mario Bros. Movie. (WP:GAMESPOT for reliable source check) Justjourney (talk | contribs) 16:08, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- Another one by T3.[6] The heading uses "Super Mario Movie", however there is one spot in the article that states only "Mario Movie". Justjourney (talk | contribs) 16:19, 17 July 2025 (UTC)
- The Gamer,[7] the IGN review of the movie[8] (and the spoiler free video)[9].
- I also found this[10] source by Screenrant, however, see Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources § Screen Rant. There is no consensus on it's reliability, but the box says that it is generally reliable for entertainment related topics. Justjourney (talk | contribs) 16:42, 17 July 2025 (UTC)

- @162 etc. are you satisfied with these sources? Popcornfud (talk) 02:44, 20 July 2025 (UTC)
- I've added a direct hatnote to Super Mario Bros. (disambiguation)#Films.
- The Mario (disambiguation) page should list things named "Mario" - despite the above citations, it still appears to me that The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a PTM. 162 etc. (talk) 03:00, 20 July 2025 (UTC)
