--2/21 -- I wanted to point out that there is a consistent problem in this article in that it takes a conversational tone and contains punctuation errors. The application section is not well-written at all. 96.41.64.33 (talk) 19:18, 4 February 2021 (UTC)MCGReply

I made quite a few modifications to this article today. There is still a lot of work to do on this article.

- In the synthetic realm, it would be nice to see a more representative selection of ways to make silver nanoparticles. The polyol method is completely left out, and no mention of templated or epitaxial syntheses are made. My expertise is primarily in colloidal silver nanoparticles, so among these methods I can can only talk about the polyol method with any authority.

- What do people think about a section on nanoparticle morphology and shape control? This is a vital area of current research, but maybe it is too technical for a general-purpose encyclopedia.

- The "biological effects" section is obviously incomplete, and the "health concerns" section seems not to be neutral based on my other readings of the health effects of silver (see, e.g., colloidal silver) and facts such as the U.S. FDA's rejection of systemic colloidal silver as unsafe and ineffective. I flagged the latter section for neutrality. Finally, the last section of "health concerns" is just a phrase, "Silzone heart valve," and needs to be expanded or removed.

- There are applications of silver nanoparticles outside of medicine, and these need to be discussed. The one that pops out at me is optical applications. In particular, silver nanoparticles are being intensively investigated for their very strong surface plasmon resonances and thus their utility in sensing (e.g. Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy) and photonic devices. Couple interesting articles

edit

See here - the press release announces an article declaring that nanosilver is the same as colloidal silver and an article about nanosilver in waste treatment plants. II | (t - c) 19:01, 31 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Removal of Silvery

edit

I reverted the addition by @Klbrain. The article already mentions the antibacterial properties of silver nanoparticles. There are a large number of companies that have either proposed or commercialised products, see for instance this search. (I am highly dubious about the viability of these, $$$.) Just adding one would not be WP:NPOV, plus the text is somewhat advertising. Just delete the other page (probably). Ldm1954 (talk) 11:54, 24 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Klbrain, checking the prior "Silvery" page that was not notable advertising. I suggest either reverting your redirect & PROD/AfD or put the redirect up for deletion. Ldm1954 (talk) 12:00, 24 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Ldm1954: No problem with the brand removal, but reversing you've removed material supported by 5 reliable sources relative to textiles; any objection to me restoring those bits? It was this material that I thought was worth keeping; otherwise I would have use PROD or AfD. Klbrain (talk) 17:07, 24 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Please add those back. I did not realize that I deleted those, sorry. Ldm1954 (talk) 17:31, 24 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
No problem at all; I understand your concerns. I've added back 3 sentences and their supporting sources, rewording the third. That last sentence could be removed as it is closest to 'advertising', but I've kept it as an example of commercial use. Klbrain (talk) 17:37, 24 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
