This entry needs more cleaning up, too much minor and unsourced material, more appropriate for a personal homepage. Needs more details about her professional career also. I have made some edits in this spirit, including adding an interesting interview with the subject.Philosophy Junkie (talk) 23:18, 15 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

IP addresses continue to add and restore minor and unsourced material. This is not Crary's vanity page, this is an encyclopedia.Philosophy Junkie (talk) 20:45, 3 May 2021 (UTC)Reply

Persistent resumé-like edits and conflict of interest

edit

As noted by @Philosophy Junkie above, this page continues to receive large additions by non-registered IP addresses that clearly advance a resumé-like, self-promotional agenda with occasional puffery.

The original article creator @Uhno80 edited this article almost exclusively, rarely attached any edit summaries, and was warned about their conflict-of-interest editing. The CoI edits continue under unregistered IP accounts, still lacking edit summaries. The most recent example (diff) added a plethora of links to podcast interviews and book reviews, not as citations for encyclopedic content but merely as resumé-like promotion.

I'm adding relevant templates to the article and this Talk page to call attention to the problem. — Goffman82 (talk) 02:02, 17 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your attention to this. I am sorry to see the problem persists. Philosophy Junkie (talk) 16:12, 6 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

I have a connection with the subject of this entry, and so won't edit it directly. I'm confused about the two notes at the top of the article: (a) it doesn't read like a resume to me; if others disagree, would someone be willing to re-write it to suit the requirements of Wikipedia? And (b) I’m not sure what grounds people see for thinking someone editing is close to the subject, but it would be helpful to have suggestions for redoing content so that it’s in line with standards and this worry no longer arises—and so that others can then edit. Thanks so much. Philosophytorres  Preceding undated comment added 23:26, 12 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Requesting edits to remove flags

edit

Hello, I am currently a research assistant for Prof Alice Crary at New School. This is a declaration of my affiliation with this wikipedia page’s subject. I am not affiliated with the previous poster on this talk page (user name Philosophytorres) nor any prior editor. My intention is not to edit Crary’s page directly but rather to work through third-party neutral editors.

I propose three updates to this page in hopes that these are sufficient for removing the flags (that it is written like a resume and that an editor has an undisclosed close connection with Prof Crary).

First suggestion:

*Remove the ‘personal’ section in its entirety.

*Remove the ‘discussed at/on’ and ‘reviewed by’ links from the Books section.

*Add citations for her influence by Hilary Putnam (https://philpapers.org/rec/CRAWAT-2), Charles Mills (https://www.radicalphilosophy.com/article/against-effective-altruism) and Peter Winch (https://www.nordicwittgensteinreview.com/article/view/3493).

Once complete, I submit that the issues flagged have been addressed and these flags can be removed. Can someone look at these updates and make them if they agree they'd improve the article and allow the flags to be removed? Thank you. Redwardsphilosophy (talk) 16:24, 9 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

@MaynardClark: As a uninvolved, impartial and active editor who has no affiliation with Alice Crary, I am wondering if you might be interested in assisting with resolving the flags raised on this page, per my message above. Pleaser respond if you are able to review. Thanks Redwardsphilosophy (talk) 19:38, 29 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hello, I am Alice Crary's new research assistant, so I'll be tagging in for Redwardsphilosophy. Thanks to everyone who has helped clean the page up. I am wondering if it is in a place now where we can remove the maintenance templates from the main page? It looks like the discussion of concerns has gone dormant.

Partly done: With the personal section are you referring to early life and education? All other stuff is done, and I've properly formatted the books too. I do still have some major concerns with this article and am reluctant to remove tags. Particularly the lack of sourcing which is a violation of WP:BLP. Encoded  Talk 💬 08:25, 28 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the cleanup. I think by "personal section," @Redwardsphilosophy was indeed referring to material that is now in "Early Life and Education" after @MaynardClark did some rearranging. To me most of it looks fine, but I don't know what is considered normal for BLP.
Aside from Crary's CV, I was unable to find citations for "Youth for Understanding" in Achern and the Collegio Americano in Quito. It seems unfortunate to remove the latter, since I assume part of the reason someone included it was to challenge the dichotomy between prestigious academic appointments and other, arguably undervalued, work in education, but if it is impossible to include without an independent source, it may have to go.
Citations for the other tagged material are as follows (I did not add them myself because of COI):
Citation Princeton IAS, Oxford 2018
https://www.rpc.ox.ac.uk/appointment-of-fellow-in-philosophy-and-christian-ethics/
https://www.ias.edu/scholars/alice-crary
https://www.fmsh.fr/en/researchers/alice-crary
Citation Regents Park
https://www.fmsh.fr/en/researchers/alice-crary
Citation Harvey Cox
Rodrigo Cártamo Aguad, Filosofía en Diálogo (Buenos Aires: Prometeo Libros, 2022), p. 113.
Does that cover your concerns, @Encoded, or are there other problems that incline you to leave the maintenance templates in place? AMphilosophy65 (talk) 00:46, 29 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I just wanted to bump this request. (I think I may have formatted your user names incorrectly in my last post.) Above, I have provided all the requested citations that I could find, but I did not add them to the article because of COI. Could an impartial editor please add them and remove the citations maintenance template if there are no more problems?
I'm still hoping that there's a timely way to get the other maintenance templates removed from Crary's page. It's not clear to me what needs to be done, but I am happy to do any legwork that won't overstep my role. AMphilosophy65 (talk) 00:16, 19 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Best wishes sorting this out. I do note that her somewhat original approach to the personhood of nonhumans is intellectually useful. IMO, we OUGHT to care about these topics. MaynardClark (talk) 00:25, 19 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Done Hey, I've added in them references and removed the tags from the top of the page. The awards section could still do with some citations so I've moved the tag down there. I believe the other issues are resolved. Thanks, Encoded  Talk 💬 08:40, 19 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
