Sunburned rat

The sunburned rat (Rattus adustus) is a species of rat from Enggano Island in Indonesia. It is only known from the holotype and has not been recorded since its description in 1940.

A specimen of a sunburnt rat. It is placed spread-eagled on its stomach, with its pass extended and its tail straight. Hand-written notes are written on labels attached to its legs. It has a distinct dark red colour.
