Summary

Front cover of the 1905 book Yogasopana Purvachatushka (Stairway to Yoga) by Yogi Narayana Ghamande, an important text marking the transition from the secrecy of medieval hatha yoga to its modern form in art, photography and exercise. It is the first yoga manual to be printed and illustrated with halftone engravings, of the author Narayana Ghamande himself executing the 37 asanas described in the book.
