The vignette, set between two American flags, is sometimes referred to as the Washington 'Flag' stamp by collectors. The die for the stamp was engraved by George F. C. Smillie (portrait), Robert F. Ponickau (frame), and Lyman F. Ellis (lettering and numerals). |
