English: Built in 1909-1911, this Beaux Arts-style skyscraper was designed by Harding and Upman, and was originally known as the Alderson-Stephenson Building. The building originally housed the Charleston Union Trust Company, from which it derives its present name. The building features a brown brick exterior with a rough-hewn stone base, a rusticated terra cotta-clad first floor and second floor facade, terra cotta trim, an ornate trim surround at the recessed front entrance bay and central bay of the third floor of the front facade, one-over-one double-hung windows and replacement windows, large bays at the side facade of the first and second floors with rusticated doric pilasters, and decorative trim at the eleventh floor. The building is a contributing structure in the Downtown Charleston Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006. The building today is known as the Union Building, and houses various commercial office tenants.
