It is an historically significant image showing part of The Pisan Cantos, written in circumstances much discussed by secondary sources. That it was started on a sheet of toilet paper suggests that Pound created it in the steel cage where he was being held on a charge of treason in an American military camp in Pisa, Italy, after the Second World War.
