Summary

Description
English: Overview of superconducting critical temperatures for a variety of superconducting materials since the first discovery in 1911.

Colors represent different classes of materials:

This figure was originally based on the Wikimedia Commons figure "Sc history.gif" at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sc_history.gif where the timeline stopped at 2010 and did not contain more than one iron-based compound.

The updated version of the figure (as of June 2026) has now been published as part the PhD thesis found on http://fys.bozack.dk/phd (or at the permanent DOI number 10.6084/m9.figshare.32690610), as figure 2.2 on page 9.

Older versions of the figure

(PJRay): I originally made this figure for my master's thesis (can be found at the permanent DOI number 10.6084/m9.figshare.2075680.v2: figure 2.4 on page 8), but thought it was worth sharing here. Those are the early versions of the figure, up until before 2026, though with a few edits from other users over the years.

(Gingras.ol): I modified this figure to make it up-to-date. You could also cite my PhD thesis: O. Gingras.

Made the previously added data points match the general look of the figure. Added dashed grid lines at the 50 K temperature and 1980 year where there are cuts in the axes, to make it clearer to the viewer. Fixed some of the ligatures disappearing on some SVG conversions (e.g. 'fi' in 'film' disappeared). Made pressure texts smaller, to make room for more text in general. Added legend. Added more points: many more nickelates, kagome supercond...
