Summary

Description
English: Neptune's faint irregular moon S/2021 N 1 (circled) seen in a 15-frame average stack of 370-second exposure images (1.54 hr integration time) from the Gemini North telescope's GMOS-N camera. Each image is shifted to follow S/2021 N 1's movement so it stays fixed in the center (so it looks like a single dot) while the background stars and galaxies move relative to it (and thus look like smeared trails). Stacking all the images together and averaging their brightness values helps isolate the moon's signal from the background noise. North is up and East is left. These images were taken by Scott Sheppard, David Tholen, and Chad Trujillo on 3 November 2023, as part of his observation proposal to recover S/2021 N 1 from getting lost. (proposal ID GN-2023B-DD-102)
