Do not remove this tag until the deletion nomination is closed. Reason for the nomination: This is a highly sensational and inaccurate image that can spread huge misunderstandings. This chart, based on a really recently published paper,[1] shows the size of Nanaimoteuthis haggarti, which is estimated to be 18.6 meters long. However, there are two important mistakes in this chart. First, the paper estimates the mantle length (length excluding head and arms) to be a maximum of 4.43 meters. This chart is clearly much larger, scaled solely based on length and without any consideration of proportions. And secondly, this silhouette is based on the vampire squid. This very paper denied relationship between this genus and vampyromorph which was previously supported. However, it would be difficult to modify this chart into something usable. The genus is Cirrata incerae sedis, of which only the jaws are known. Since we don't know exactly what modern octopods this animal is related to, any silhouette used would give a false bias about what the animal looked like. Therefore, I think the best way to prevent the spread of misinformation caused by this image is to delete this file itself. News about this "giant octopus" is currently making waves across the paleontology community, and images like this one are especially easy to spread.

| This paleontological restoration is inaccurate, or its accuracy is disputed. Reason: Does not match mantle length estimation in description (~4.43 m). Affinity of it as vampyropomorph is rejected. |
