| Description |
English: Douglas DC-9-15 (cn 45777/80) Final Departure, Flight 553. Taken during my first road trip to photograph airliners at PIT. Driving home that evening I heard on the radio that a TWA flight from PIT to DAY had a mid-air collision with a Beechcraft near Urbana, Ohio causing both aircraft to crash. This is THAT FLIGHT, Flt 553, about to leave the gate at PIT. The aircraft was less than two months old, having been delivered on 11 January, and had seen only 309 hours in the air. I've never seen another photo of it. Taken March 9, 1967. |
