Summary
English: Office buildings of the LVM, Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany
The origins of today’s LVM campus date back to 1967, when the company moved into its premises on Kolde-Ring at the corner of Weseler Straße. The campus’s seven insurance buildings are located south of Münster city center. The northern part of Von-Stauffenberg-Straße runs through the campus, while Sperlichstraße forms its southern boundary. The LVM buildings were constructed between 1965 and 2014. The insurance company’s three high-rise buildings in particular are part of Münster’s skyline. The ground-level sculptures “Body and Soul” (Duk-Kyu Ryang, 2015) and “Two Horses for Münster” (Stephan Huber, 2002) are central visual elements of the site design. The 63-meter-high office tower LVM 5, known as “Crystal”, is a particularly striking building due to its design, while the 80-meter-high building LVM 3, known as “Tower”, is one of the tallest buildings in Münster. Notes
For users of the photo
The rules of the listed free license apply, no more and no less. Please respect the copyright protection.
Especially with social media you have to pay attention to the terms of use. These sometimes do not correspond to the license conditions listed here. (See CC BY-SA licenses and social media.) Please check this before use in the respective medium.
The license conditions must also be respected when using so-called generative artificial intelligence (AI). Images created on the basis of this image are processed images or derivatives within the meaning of the license.
Of course, a free license is no carte blanche for use. In particular, there are restrictions not based on the license, for example to the personality rights of the author (Copyright law of Germany, §§ 12 to 14 of the German Copyright Act). This is especially true for the required attribution and the use of the image. It is expressly not allowed to give the impression through the use of the image, that the author supports the work, in which the image is used, or whose rights holders in any way.

For editors

Even though a wiki offers a wide range of possibilities, some changes are possible but not permitted. The creator of the image has made it available here under the specific license mentioned. The three components — image file, license, and filename (title) — are inextricably linked. Always keep in mind that images are also used outside the Wikimedia Commons ecosystem. In those contexts, attribution specifically refers to this exact location and this exact image file here.
- If you make changes to the image and want to make the modified image available to others here, upload the result under a new name and credit yourself as the editor — even for very minor changes. The templates Derivative and Extract are also available for this purpose. In addition, the user should make minor corrections only to the source file they have on hand. The source is — as a rule — a RAW file. Editing a JPEG file always results in an undesirable loss of quality.
- As an alternative to the specified license, only compatible licenses are permitted. Otherwise, any other form of licensing is reserved exclusively for the copyright holder.
- When making changes to the filename, please always keep in mind the world outside of Wikimedia Commons. Anyone who enters a link expects the correct page with the correct image to appear. Anything else leads to confusion. A reference to the file versions is considered insufficient and impractical.
If you believe changes are necessary, or if you would like to offer constructive criticism, please contact the author.
It goes without saying that using the Crop Tool will not overwrite this original file. In accordance with the license, the resulting cropped image will have its user categories removed, any labels like “Quality Image” removed, the name of the person who created the cropped image added, and this original file cited as the source.
Two additional notes:
- File metadata (EXIF/IPTC/XMP) must not be removed or altered (protection of information necessary for the enforcement of rights, §95c UrhG).
- The author expressly disavows any images based on his photos (derivative works) that have been altered — even minimally — by third parties and on which only his name is listed as the author.
The title (or, alternatively, the filename) is part of the license’s required information and should therefore not be changed. If any of the information is incorrect, the author would appreciate being notified.

For photographers
First, you should be aware that a good photo is taken by the photographer themselves. The focus is therefore on composition and creativity. At least when you are starting out, it is advisable to follow the rules of composition. The camera and lens are tools for creating the photo. Technically speaking, a photo is only as good as the tools allow it to be.
If creativity and high quality are important to you, you should say goodbye to fully automatic mode. However, individual automatic functions can be useful. It is better to make some camera settings consciously, so it is also important to use them selectively.
There are only a few basic parameters that affect a photo. These are aperture, exposure time and ISO value. The aperture determines the depth of field in the image. The wider the aperture is open, the less sharp the image will be, and vice versa. However, the aperture should only be closed as far as is absolutely necessary. The exposure time should be short enough to prevent the photo from being blurred. The shorter it is, the more likely it is that movement will be frozen. The ISO value determines how sensitive a sensor is to light. The higher it is, the more sensitive it becomes. (More precisely, the light signal is amplified.) However, this has a disadvantage, because as the ISO value increases, so does the noise.
You should be able to focus correctly on the camera. You don’t necessarily have to focus manually, but you should be able to select the appropriate focus fields yourself. Furthermore, the significance of the focal length and its effect on the photo should be actively selected. For example, a longer focal length results in a compression effect, which has its own image effect. Even when using a zoom lens, it can’t hurt to take a few steps forward or backward.
Of course, this is only a very brief overview. There are other influencing factors and parameters, but these cannot be conveyed in the brevity of this text.Maybe you’re waiting for the “perfect” subject. For better light. For more time. But creativity doesn’t start with perfect conditions — it starts with curiosity. With the courage to look. With the decision to get started today.
The light in the morning tells different stories than the light in the evening. Shadows paint patterns on walls. Raindrops transform into tiny universes when viewed in macro. An ordinary street becomes a stage when you observe it patiently.
You don’t need the most expensive equipment. You need your eye. Ask yourself:
- What do I overlook every day?
- How does this moment feel?
- What happens when I get closer — or further away?
Allow yourself to experiment. Play with perspectives. Crouch down. Take pictures against the light. Deliberately crop something out. Break the rules — after you know them. Not every picture has to be perfect. Every picture can be a step.
Creativity comes from doing. So get going. Capture what moves you. Show your view of the world — because no one else sees it the way you do.
Your camera is not a tool for perfection. It is a tool for expression.
Photographs
You like this photograph? That pleases me very much! You would like to see more of my pictures? With pleasure.
Wikimedia Commons has a large number of my photographs available under a free license. This makes it easy for you and me. The license details are for each picture. The use is easier than you think, because in essence, this is just the attribution in the form I want. In addition, usage notes are listed for each picture. And if it does not fit, just ask. My contact information is also available with every photograph. |
Every photographer has maxims that guide him or her. Sometimes they exist consciously, sometimes unconsciously. So here is an attempt to formulate this maxim for my own photos:
- I have to like the photos myself. Even if interests change over the course of time, this means that primarily subjects of personal interest are photographed. Subjects of secondary interest serve to increase knowledge and experiment with other techniques or subjects. Commissioned work with special design requirements is not carried out.
- Free knowledge should be supported. The photos should support knowledge and education in every possible way. I see free knowledge as a valuable asset. There is no commercial interest and it would also stand in the way of creativity.
- The joy of photography should be visible. Photography should be fun. Beautiful pictures should enable fantasy worlds. My photos should convey all of this.
- Photos are only offered to third parties if they have been finally processed. The entire development process is carried out by me, from the choice of motif to post-processing. Changes of any kind by third parties are therefore not acceptable. Use is of course permitted subject to the license conditions.
- The technically possible should be utilized. The equipment sets limits, but the photos should be taken within these limits. This also means that photos are usually taken in raw data format.
- The photos are part of a creative process. From the idea to the choice of motif to post-processing, the creative process is utilized and the individual view is used to shape it.
- The photos should serve as a model for others and arouse interest in photography. Photography has many facets, from documentation to artistic use. The special features of this medium are intended to arouse interest in photography and also photographic art.
- The photos should have a positive effect. My hope is that the photos will help make the world a little bit better and have a positive impact on how we interact with each other. That is why I am particularly pleased when the photos are used for educational purposes or volunteer work.
