English: Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, also known as Bangabandhu, delivered his historic 7th March Speech on March 7, 1971, at a massive public gathering held at Race Course Maidan, now known as Suhrawardy Udyan. This speech, lasting 19 minutes, is recognized by UNESCO as a Documentary Heritage and has been included in the MEMORY OF THE WORLD INTERNATIONAL REGISTER.

According to a 14 December 2021 ruling of the High Court Division of Bangladesh, photographs of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (“Father of the Nation”) and of the Bangladesh Liberation War are the exclusive property of the State of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, and cannot be claimed by individuals or private organizations. [1][2]
On 11 September 2025, the Press Information Department (Bangladesh) (PID), an organ of the Government of Bangladesh, announced that from its archive:

  • "Unless Otherwise stated, media files such as images, videos, and audio on this website are owned by the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and are in the public domain."
Thus, while this photograph was not originally “taken by” PID (it may have been captured by a government photographer or archive), it is held by the Government of Bangladesh, and PID has released it into the public domain under a government-public-domain statement.[3]
