English: Cellular anatomical representation of Monomastix opisthostigma. A single chloroplast with two lobes connected at the bottom is shown. In the anterior region of the cell, there is a single flagellum, a pro-basal body, a contractile vacuole, a nucleus with its nucleolus, the endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus, and a mitochondrion (the shapes of the latter three are speculative). At the bottom of the cell are trichocysts (which have a defensive function) and an eyespot or stigma. Each chloroplast lobe has a pyrenoid covered with a starch sheath.
