English: This bronze plaque commemorates the centennial of the cornerstone laying ceremony for the Statue of Liberty's pedestal. The original ceremony took place on August 5, 1884, led by William A. Brodie, who was then Grand Master of Masons in the State of New York. The plaque notes that the original ceremony was attended by Grand Lodge members, representatives of both the United States and French governments, military officers, foreign diplomats, and other distinguished citizens.
The plaque was installed on August 5, 1984, by the Masons of New York and lists several officials: - M∴W∴ Calvin G. Bond (Grand Master of Masons) - M∴W∴ Arthur Markewich (Masonic Anniversary Chairman) - R∴W∴ Robert C. Singer (Deputy Grand Master) The plaque features the Masonic Square and Compass symbol (⚹) on both sides of the bottom portion and shows weathering and deterioration, particularly around its edges and surface.
