Description

This is the logo for Stockholm Municipality. Further details: The logotype of the municipality of Stockholm, located in Stockholm County, Sweden. It features the municipal arms with Saint Eric, and has existed in its current form since 2013. There are three variants of it:

  1. The first one, shown here, is in black and white, and is intended for light backgrounds.
  2. The second one, intended for dark backgrounds, is white, and shows the escutcheon with a transparent field.
  3. Finally, there exists a full‐color version, where the arms are shown with their true tinctures, which is however reserved for "extremely few exceptions", such as "solemn occasions with a strong connection to tradition"; it may also only be used with a white background.

The arms themselves date back to a seal of Stockholm, attested from 1376. Later, in the beginning of the 20th century, as it was noted that numerous variants were in use ("at least as many as the number of administrations"), the artist Yngve Berg was commissioned to create a uniform design; and as such, the arms were formally adopted by the city council in 1923. The King in Council later confirmed them in 1934. While Yngve Berg's version forms the basis for the current design to this day, it was modernized and stylized in 1961 by Karl‐Erik Forsberg. Although later revised, it is his emblazonment that is currently in use. By decision of the city council, Saint Eric constitutes the sole and common logotype of the City of Stockholm, since 1997.
The pre‐2013 logotype consisted of the arms in color, encircled by a circumscription reading "STOCKHOLMS STAD".

Portion used

The entire logo is used to convey the meaning intended and avoid tarnishing or misrepresenting the intended image.

Low resolution?

This is an SVG vector image of a registered trademark or a copyright-protected logo, seal or computer icon. This image should not be rendered any larger than is required for the purposes of identification and/or critical commentary. The default rendering of this image is of a size and resolution sufficient to maintain the quality intended by the company or organization, without being unnecessarily high resolution.

Purpose of use

The image is placed in the infobox at the top of the article discussing Stockholm Municipality, a subject of public interest. The significance of the logo is to help the reader identify the organization, assure the readers that they have reached the right article containing critical commentary about the organization, and illustrate the organization's intended branding message in a way that words alone could not convey.

Replaceable?

Because it is a non-free logo, there is almost certainly no free representation. Any substitute that is not a derivative work would fail to convey the meaning intended, would tarnish or misrepresent its image, or would fail its purpose of identification or commentary.
