Summary

Description	Le jardin exotique de Monaco a été ouvert au public en 1931 et inauguré en 1933 par le prince Louis II de Monaco (1870-1949). En plus du jardin botanique, il comprend une grotte dite "de l'observatoire" qui est ouverte au public depuis 1950 et un musée d'anthropologie préhistorique. Le jardin est un des hauts lieux du tourisme à Monaco, d'une part pour la diversité de ses plantes et la qualité de ses aménagements, d'autre part pour sa vue sur la mer. Un reproche : le nombre insuffisant de cartels indiquant les noms des plantes. Construit à flanc de falaise le Jardin Exotique offre une vue panoramique sur la Principauté de Monaco et propose de découvrir des plantes succulentes aux formes étranges dont les cactées (ou cactus) constituent la famille la plus représentative. Les végétaux acclimatés dans ce Jardin sont originaires de plusieurs zones sèches lointaines (d'où le terme "exotique") : sud-ouest des Etats-Unis, Mexique, Amérique centrale et du sud pour les cactées et les agaves ; Afrique du sud, orientale et péninsule arabique pour les autres succulentes.
