The inscription in the lower part of the painting refers to the identity of the sitter: MATTHIAS I MAXIMILIANI 2 IMPERATORIS FILIUS NATUS ANNO 1557 24 / FEBRUARV IN IMPERATOREM ELECTUS ANNO 1612 EIUS FELICISSIMUM / (IMPER)IUM (DE)US OPTIMUS MAXIMUS SUAM [sic] DIUTISSIME SECUND(ET). There is an inventory number 71, lower right.
