Français : Ce tableau a été réalisé pour le Salon de 1781 où l’artiste envoya deux grands tableaux ovales peints pour la chapelle Sainte-Trinité de Fontainebleau et plusieurs petites peintures. Ce tableau est décrit dans le livret du Salon de 1781, au n° 121 (« Dans le fond du Tableau, on voit une Ville embrasée, le Commerce éperdu, & sur le devant une Charrue brisée, & les attributs des Arts abandonnés, tableau de 6 pieds de haut sur 5 de large »).
