Summary
| DescriptionImmersionist Habitat, Feb 2026.jpg |
English: This is an original map of Williamsburg, Brooklyn in the 1990s showing the extensive, interconnected culture of the Brooklyn Immersionist arts movement. The interdisciplinary, ecologically engaged scene catalyzed a renaissance that spread through Brooklyn and lowered the attrition rates for the disadvantaged. In partnership with the City of New York, corporate developers began to leverage the emergent, ecosocial culture in 1999, receiving billions of dollars in tax abatements and favorable rezoning. Corporate welfare led to a steep rise in the cost of living and an increase in attrition rates for the disadvantaged in the new millennium. Most of the Immersionists were forced to move out of the neighborhood they had revived. |
