Description
English: Starting in about the 1880s, the British sugar market was flooded with subsidized continental raw beet sugar and refined beet and cane sugar. Some British refiners decided to refine only raw sugar from cane, which was preferred by a significant number of consumers.
Nederlands: Ongeveer vanaf de tachtiger jaren, werd de Britse markt overspoeld door gesubsidieered ruwe bitesuiker en geraffineerde biet- en rietsuiker van continentale producenten. Sommige Britse raffinaderijen kozen er voor om alleen ruwe rietsuiker te raffineren, omdat veel consumenten daar een voorkeur voor hadden.
