Summary
editUnknown photographer. The photo was taken sometime in 1866 or 1867 while Dr. Mudd was imprisoned at Fort Jefferson. The first known use of the photo was in the 1906 book entitled The Life of Dr. Samuel A. Mudd, written by his daughter Nettie Mudd. The photo's caption in this book says "Dr. Samuel A. Mudd - As he appeared when working in the carpenter's shop in the prison at Fort Jefferson." A copy of photo may be obtained from the Prints and Photographs Division of the U.S. Library of Congress.
