Summary

Description
English: Chart of the development of Shaivism.

Basic derived from Flood (1996), An Introduction to Hinduism", p.152

Kaula, Krama, Trika: Krama and Trika are subschools of Kaula; Flood shows Trika as distinct from Kaula, but Sanderson (1988), "Shaivism and the Tantric revelation" describes Trika as a subschool of the Kaula.

Kashmir Shaivism is an umbrella-term for various monistic developments in Kashmiri Shaivism, but is also used to refer to the Kashmir Trika school. Since Trika originated before 'Kashmir' Shaivism, Kashmir Shaivism is here presented as a development of the Trika.

The Natha Siddhas are a subgroup of Siddhas (Muller-Ortega 2010, p.36; Mallinson 2012), and were influenced by the Kapalika (Muller-Ortega (2010), p.36; O'Brien-Kop (2022), p.1485), Kaula (Muller-Ortega (2010), p.36), and Pashupata (O'Brien-Kop (2022), p.1485).

The Lingayats were influenced by the Kalamukhas and the Nayanars.
