DescriptionDc10-ua.png	English: United Airlines Flight 232's number 2 engine included an undetected fault in its stage 1 fan disk, causing part of it to separate in flight toward the aircraft's left horizontal stabilizer. The remaining disk was immediately thrown out of balance and was ejected toward the right horizontal stabilizer, scattering titanium shrapnel as it came apart. Several pieces impacted the aft fuselage. The aircraft's three hydraulic systems were compromised, one each in the left/right stabilizers and another which connected just below where the fan disk failed. 日本語: ユナイテッド航空232便の第2エンジンには初段のファンディスクに検出されなかった欠陥があり、このフライトでディスクの一部分が分離し左の水平安定板を直撃した。残りの部分は回転バランスを失い直ちに右の水平安定板に向かって飛散し、ばらばらになったチタン合金の破片が散弾のごとく撒き散らされた。飛び散った破片によりファンの真下に位置した油圧ポンプも破壊され、さらに左右の昇降舵を動かす残りの2系統ある油圧配管も後部胴体下部で互いに結合されていたため、結果、3系統ある油圧系統は多重安全の機能を失ってダウンした。
