Description
English: Connection Machine CM-2 and accompanying DataVault, at Mimms Museum of Technology and Art in Roswell, Georgia. This was a supercomputer released in 1987 by Thinking Machines. The iconic blinking red LED arrays of Connection Machines were featured in several well known films, like with the CM-5 in Jurassic Park.

This is a retouched picture, which means that it has been digitally altered from its original version. Modifications: This is a double exposure of the computer turned on and separately turned off, since properly exposing the black computer in the dim interior lighting is impossible to balance with the rapidly flashing bright red LEDs. The main computer housing was a 13 second exposure at f/6.3 100 iso, and the LEDs are rapid 1/500th second exposures at f/2.8 6400 iso, which is almost as opposite as you can get. It does really look like this in real life, just rapidly flashing instead of frozen still. I've picked pleasing arrangements of LEDs from two different photos. I've also removed many scratches from the surface with a clonestamp and desaturated the colours to remove reflections..

The grey colour helps the eye adjust to pick out details in the black computer, and the white outer glow helps separate the computer from the grey background. There is a gradient on the background to help the computer feel grounded instead of floating in space.
