Church of Magarao

The ecclesiastical administration of Magarao belonged with Canaman until 1750. The first church was destroyed by the earthquakes of 1811. The second provisional church built of bamboo and nipa thatch lasted until 1826. Started that year the present church was completed in 1849. The church and the convent, which were seriously damaged by the earthquakes of March 1887, were repaired by the Rev. Vicente Rojo and the Rev. Higinio del Alamo, O.F.M.
