Summary
English: On 18 October 1944, during the Day of the Battle of the Nations commemoration (Tag der Völkerschlacht bei Leipzig 18. Oktober 1813), SS chief Heinrich Himmler presided over a Volkssturm induction ceremony attended by senior Nazi leaders including Wilhelm Keitel, Heinz Guderian, Hans Heinrich Lammers, and Martin Bormann. This event is believed to have been the penultimate public appearance of the Blood Flag (Blutfahne), the Nazi Party’s ceremonial relic from the Beer Hall Putsch of 1923. The last confirmed public use occurred on 12 November 1944 in Munich during a memorial for the putsch dead, combined with the swearing-in of Volkssturm members.
