Bab [Gate] Boujeloud, known as the Blue Gate (although the other side has green tiles), was built in 1913. Despite being a relatively recent addition to Fez, it’s considered the most beautiful entry point into the medina.
Visible through the archway is the Bou Inania Madrasa minaret. The madrasa (Islamic school) was founded in the mid-14th century.
Fez was founded in 789. It has been the Moroccan capital at various times in its history, with the most recent period ending in 1925 when the capital was moved to Rabat.
The Medina of Fez became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981.
