The following is a list of unproduced Stuart Gordon projects in chronological order. During his extensive career, American filmmaker Stuart Gordon has worked on several projects which never progressed beyond the pre-production stage under his direction. Some of these projects fell in development hell, were officially canceled, were in development limbo or would see life under a different production team.

1980s

Herbert West, Re-Animator TV series

On June 8, 1982, Gordon proposed to write & produce Herbert West, Re-Animator, a television series spinoff of Re-Animator that has the series concept and pilot episode preserved in the Archival Resources of Wisconsin.[1]

The Berserker

On October 21, 1985, Gordon intended to direct “The Berserker,” a horror-themed wrestling movie he co-wrote the screen treatment along with Dennis Paoli and Arnold Schwarzenegger attached to star.[1][2]

Gris-Gris

On October 21, 1987, Gordon intended to direct “Gris-Gris,” a movie scripted by Dennis Paoli from the screen treatment by Gordan, Paoli & Brian Yuzna.[1]

The Misdeal

In 1988, Gordon was attached to direct The Misdeal, a treatment written by Andrea Barzini, Suso Cecchi d'Amore, and Umberto Marino.[1]

Bloody Bess

In 1988, Gordon was set to write and direct “Bloody Bess”, a pirate movie starring Barbara Crampton as the Patty Hearst-esque lead character and Jeffrey Combs before Empire Pictures filed for bankruptcy.[3]

Shadows Over Innsmouth

In 1988, Gordon intended to write and direct a feature film adaptation of H. P. Lovecraft’s novel Shadows Over Innsmouth for Empire Pictures, but it never got the proper financing and would influence Gordon’s film Dagon.[3]

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids

Me and My Shadow

On March 23, 1989, Gordon co-wrote the screen treatment for “Me and My Shadow,” a feature film adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale The Shadow with Lenny Kleinfeld co-writing the treatment throughout the 1990’s.[1]

1990s

Iron Man film

In 1990, Gordon was attached to direct the feature film about the Marvel Comics character Iron Man for Universal Pictures, which was eventually directed by Jon Favreau.[1]

American Psycho film

In 1991, Gordon got the option to write & direct the feature film adaptation of the Bret Easton Ellis novel American Psycho from Ellis’ agent, with Johnny Depp as Gordon’s choice to play Patrick Bateman, until Silence of the Lambs was released led to Ellis ending Gordon’s adaptation & led to Mary Harron to direct the American Psycho feature film.[4]

Body Snatchers

In June 1991, Gordon was attached to direct the feature film adaptation of the Dean Koontz novel Midnight, with Koontz, Dennis Paoli, Mark H. Baker, & Hal Sparks writing different drafts of the screenplay and Mace Neufeld & Robert Rehme were attached to produce the feature film adaptation.[5][1]

The Monkey Wife

In August 10, 1991, Gordon proposed to direct Julia Cameron’s screenplay The Monkey Wife.[1]

Vampfire film

In 1997, Gordon intended to direct the feature film adaptation of Jim Balent and Holly Golightly’s comic book “Vampfire,” with original character sketches preserved in the Archival Resources of Wisconsin.[1]

Downloader

In 1997, Gordon was interested in “Downloader,” which has artwork preserved in the Archival Resources of Wisconsin.[1]

2000s

Suitable Flesh

In the early 2000’s, Gordon intended to direct Dennis Paoli’s script Suitable Flesh, which Joe Lynch ended up directing instead.[6]

2010s

Psycho 4

edit

Gordon was offered by Anthony Perkins to direct Psycho IV: The Beginning, but was busy filming Daughter of Darkness and Mick Garris would ultimately direct the fourth Psycho film.[7]
