João Maria Botelho is a Portuguese jurist associated with the fields of sustainability and ESG. He is the founder of Generation Resonance. In 2024, he was recognised by Forbes Portugal in the 30 Under 30 list in the Sustainability and Social Innovation category.[1][2][3]

Career

He completed his law degree at NOVA School of Law, where he collaborated with NOVA Green Lab as a Collaborator-Research Assistant and served on the advisory board of the research centre during his undergraduate studies.[4][2] In 2024, he joined the school's Alumni Council.[5]

In December 2023, he participated as a speaker at the Forbes Annual Summit 2023, in the panel COP 28 Insights – Rethinking Sustainability.[6][7]

In 2024, he was one of the organisers of the first edition of the Portuguese Climate Summit, held in Oeiras and organised by Generation Resonance in partnership with the United Nations Association in Portugal and the Municipality of Oeiras.[8][9]

In June 2025, Diário de Notícias reported that he would join the official Portuguese delegation at the Bonn Conference within the framework of the United Nations climate negotiations.[1]

In the same year, he was cited in two Forbes articles on the review and postponement of European sustainability reporting requirements.[10][11]

He is an ambassador of the European Climate Pact in Portugal.[12]
