The following is a list of unproduced Jason Reitman projects in chronological order. During his extensive career, Canadian-American filmmaker Jason Reitman has worked on several projects which never progressed beyond the pre-production stage under his direction. Some of these projects fell in development hell, were officially canceled, were in development limbo or would see life under a different production team.

2000s

Bonzai Shadowhands

On November 20, 2006, Reitman was set to direct the comedy film Bonzai Shadowhands, with Rainn Wilson writing and starring in the film, Reitman will executive produce the film through his Hard C company with Daniel Dubiecki & Wilson for Fox Searchlight Pictures handling film distribution.[1] On August 6, 2009, Reitman transferred the movie from Hard C to Right of Way Films, which is now a collaboration with Indian Paintbrush.[2]

The Ornate Anatomy of Living Things

On May 14, 2007, Reitman was set to produce Max Winkler & Matt Spicer’s spec script The Ornate Anatomy of Living Things with Hard C’s Daniel Dubiecki producing the film with Peter Principato and Paul Young for Fox Searchlight Pictures to distribute.[3]

Pierre Pierre

On March 5, 2008, Reitman was set to direct Edwin Cannistraci and Frederick Seton’s screenplay Pierre Pierre with Jim Carrey set to star in the movie, with Reitman’s Hard C company would co-produce with Escape Films for Fox Atomic to distribute.[4] On July 19, 2010, Larry Charles replaced Reitman as the film’s director.[5]

Whispers in Bedlam film

On August 6, 2009, Reitman was going to produce a feature film adaptation of Irwin Shaw’s short story Whispers in Bedlam with Helen Estabrook through Right of Way Films in collaboration with Indian Paintbrush.[2] On January 31, 2009, Reitman offered the project to Max Winkler to direct and Matt Spicer to write.[6]

On January 22, 2010, Reitman confirmed that he will direct a hockey referee comedy movie through Right of Way Films in collaboration with Indian Paintbrush.[10][11]

Elliot Allagash film

On June 22, 2010, Reitman was set to produce the feature film adaptation of Simon Rich’s novel Elliot Allagash with Helen Estabrook executive producing the movie through Right of Way Films along with Indian Paintbrush.[12]

The Possibilities

On January 28, 2014, Reitman was set to direct the feature film adaptation of Kaui Hart Hemmings’ novel The Possibilities, with Reitman set to executive produce the movie with Helen Estabrook through Right of Way Films in collaboration with Indian Paintbrush.[13]

I Would Only Rob Banks for My Family

On November 20, 2014, Reitman was set to direct & executive produce the feature film adaptation of Skip Hollandsworth’s article I Would Only Rob Banks for My Family, with Nick Hornby set to write the screenplay, Ivan Reitman, Helen Estabrook, Ali Bell, Tom Pollock, Alex Plapinger were attached to produce for Fox Searchlight set to distribute the film.[14]

Beekle

On May 27, 2015, Reitman was attached to write and direct the animated feature film adaptation of Dan Santat’s picture book The Adventures of Beekle: The Unimaginary Friend entitled Beekle with Bonnie Arnold and Mireille Soria producing the film through DreamWorks Animation.[15]

Justice League: Mortal

On April 10, 2008, Reitman turned down the offer to direct Justice League: Mortal for Warner Bros. Pictures.[16]
