Biography

Season One

edit

Dr. Jack Abbot is introduced in "7:00 A.M". as the night shift attending. He is finishing a tough shift: Dr. Robby meets him on the roof of the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center, where he is standing on the opposite side of the safety barrier, looking down at the city below. He tells Robby that he'd failed to save the life of a 39-year-old veteran named Raymond Orser who'd been hit by a drunk driver. Robby encourages him away from the roof's edge, and they return to the Emergency Department. During this, Jack informs him that the sister of the deceased veteran and a pregnant teenager will be arriving at the hospital during the day shift.

In "9:00 A.M.", Robby meets with Raymond Orser's sister. He shows her the body, then reads her the letter Abbot had written to her. In the letter, Abbot makes reference to his own experiences in the military, apologises that Raymond could not be saved, and offers his condolences to her.

Season Two

edit

Abbot returns in "7:00 P.M." to begin his night shift. The hospital's technology system comes back online, and Abbot instructs the day shift staff to stay and transfer their paper medical charts to digital forms.
