History

edit

FläktGroup's roots can be traced back to several engineering and ventilation companies founded in the early 20th century in the UK and Sweden. Among the earliest companies were Woods of Colchester, founded in 1909 in the UK, and Svenska Fläktfabriken,[1] which was formally established in Jönköping in 1920 following the work initiated by engineers Sven Söderberg and Robert Sundström as early as 1918. Another early company, DENCO, was founded in Hereford in 1948. Over the following decades, these companies expanded their operations internationally.

During the second half of the 20th century, the companies underwnt a series of ownership changes and mergers. Svenska Fläktfabriken was listed on the stock exchange in 1960 and expanded its international operations. In 1988, the company was acquired by ABB. Other parts of the business developed under various ownership structures, including Woods Air Movement, which was sold to Global Air Movement SARL in 2000. In 2002, Global Air Movement merged with the Fläkt Woods Group following the acquisition of ABB's air handling business.

From the mid-2000s, Fläkt Woods expanded through acquisitions and geographical growth. In 2007, the company acquired SEMCO in the US, expanding its presence in the North American market. This was followed by further acquisitions in 2009, including Carylair Air Management Systems in India and Airchal in France, which led to expansion in Asia and Europe. In the same time, GEA Group's air handling division (which later became DencoHappel) was operated under private ownership and changed its name in 2015 after being acquired by Triton Partners.[2]

In 2016, Triton Partners acquired Fläkt Woods, which later was merged with DencoHappel to form FläktGroup.[3] The merger formed a company with operations across several countries.

Following its formation, FläktGroup continued to expand its industrial presence and operations. In 2022, the company opened a new manufacturing facility in Turkey as part of its efforts to strengthen production capacity and regional presence.

In May 2025, Samsung Electronics announced an agreement to acquire FläktGroup from Triton Partners[4] for approximately €1.5 billion. The transaction was completed in November 2025.[5] In December 2025, David Dorney was appointed as the new CEO of FläktGroup.[6]
