As the largest business law firm in Luxembourg which is an important offshore financial centre this company seems worth of an Wikipedia article Corto lu (talk) 08:19, 22 May 2026 (UTC)

Arendt & Medernach is the largest business law firm in Luxembourg and is a major actor of Luxembourg's Financial Centre.[1] It is organised as a société anonyme, registered with the Luxembourg Trade and Companies Register under number B 186371, and is regulated by the Luxembourg Bar.

The firm was created in 1988 through the merger of two Luxembourg law firms, Arendt & Harles and Mersch & Medernach. Its creation took place during a broader transformation of the Luxembourg legal market. From the 1980s onwards, the growth of the financial centre created a rising demand for specialised legal advice, while new firms challenged the older family-based law firms that had dominated the profession.[2] Arendt & Medernach became one of the firms associated with this new generation of business lawyers.[3]

The evolution of Arendt & Medernach mirrors the broader transformation of Luxembourg law firms—from local practices into more internationally focused business-law firms. Its work has been deeply intertwined with the Luxembourg financial centre, especially in investment funds and tax.[4]

In 2009, the Arendt group established Arendt Investor Services. It provides corporate services, company incorporation and administration, accountancy, tax compliance, fund services and related operational support.[5] At the beginning of the 21th century, several Luxembourgish law firms moved beyond traditional legal advice and developed services similar to those offered by fiduciaries and audit firms.[6]

Since the late 2000s, Arendt & Medernach has been among the largest firms in the Luxembourg legal market. It opened an office in Brussels in 1995, which closed in 2013, and briefly had an office in Amsterdam from 2001. It then opened offices in New York in 2005, London in 2007, Dubai in 2008, Hong Kong in 2009, Moscow in 2012, which closed in 2022, and Paris in 2017.[7] As of 2026, the firm's official website listed offices in Luxembourg, Hong Kong, London, New York, Paris and Frankfurt.[8]

Several partners of the firm have held prominent positions in Luxembourg. Claude Kremer, a founding partner, chaired the Association of the Luxembourg Fund Industry (ALFI) from May 2007 to June 2011 and later served as president of the European Fund and Asset Management Association (EFAMA) from 2011 to 2013. Paul Mousel, also a founding partner, has served as chairman of the administrative commission of the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg, the largest clinic in Luxembourg. Two partners of the firm have served as Bâtonnier of the Luxembourg Bar: Guy Harles from 2011 to 2012 and François Kremer from 2018 to 2020.[9]
