Draft:AC method

(Redirected from Draft:AC Method)

In algebra, the AC method is a common way to factor trinomials with integer coefficients that are in the form . When factoring a trinomial with a leading coefficient of 1, the process is quite simple. Otherwise, additional steps must be taken to arrive at an answer.

Alternatives to the AC method exist, such as the guess and check method, but they are often considered to be impractical in most situations. This can be due to a number of reasons including a higher degree of effort, or an unnecessarily extended process.

The steps of the AC method are shown below:

  1. Compute
  2. Find two numbers, and , such that and
  3. Rewrite as
  4. Factor by grouping
  5. Factor out the common binomial
